影片纪录了兰州市七里河区城管在创建文明城市下的一次集体大整治，纪录了城管与摊贩、拆迁户的博弈与双方的困境和无奈。最终，城管理解摊贩，摊贩也理解城管，大家共同的目标其实是把城市建设的更美好，更适宜人类生活，最终真正达到人民城市人民管，这是最高理想。

《生和活》是一部采用法国纪录片流派“真实电影”的创作方法来完成的纪录短片。全片随机采访身处上海郊区古镇的各种人，向他们提出人生三问：你是谁？你从哪里来？生活得怎么样？通过以上普适性的问题，将“生活”拆分成“生”和“活”，让每个人重新看待和思考自己的生活。回答是一种“对境”，折射出每个回答者的身份、阶层、处境和心境。
